Whitstable shooting: Fourth arrest after man shot in leg on Westmeads Recreation Ground

A fthird person has been charged following a shooting in Whitstable.
Barry Chambers, 23, of Walmer Road in Whitstable, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent.
He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.
He is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the incident, which saw a 22-year-old man rushed to hospital with a leg injury after he was shot in the leg on Westmeads Recreation Ground.
Armed police, paramedics and an air ambulance were scrambled to the scene at about 2pm on July 7.
Officers initially believed he had been injured with a ball-bearing gun pellet. But surgery revealed his wound had been caused by a bullet.
Inquiries are ongoing, to establish the type of weapon involved.
Andrew Williams, 52, of no fixed address, was also arrested last Wednesday in connection with the shooting.
He was charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a firearm, and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ on Friday
On July 15, a 54-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the incident.
The 16-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday, and was remanded in custody.
The 54-year-old has been released on bail until August 7, pending further investigation.
All three people charged have been remanded in custody and are next due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on August 19.
