Train journeys were disrupted this morning after a vehicle hit a railway bridge.

Services were unable to run between Faversham and Margate after the structure was struck near Chestfield and Swalecliffe station.

Network Rail staff were sent to carry out safety checks.

Train operator Southeastern posted shortly before 11am to say the bridge had been hit.

But the line has since reopened after safety checks were carried out.

“The checks on the bridge at Chestfield and Swalecliffe have now been completed, and trains are able to run in both directions again,” a post shortly after 11.30am said.

“Some services may still be delayed while we get trains back on time, and tickets can still be used at no extra cost on Stagecoach buses.”
