Burglar with axe among those involved in alleged break-ins in Millstrood Road and Walmer Road, Whitstable

An investigation has been launched after axe-wielding burglars smashed their way into two properties.

The first break-in happened in Millstrood Road, Whitstable, at around 2am last Monday (February 10) while the second was in nearby Walmer Road at around 4am the following day.

On both occasions, the offenders are reported to have smashed glass at the rear of the properties to gain access whilst one man was armed with an axe.

Nobody was injured in either incident but a quantity of cash was allegedly stolen from the Walmer Road address.

On that occasion, three offenders are thought to have been involved who were all wearing masks, black coats, grey bottoms and gloves.

They have been described as slim, white and with local accents while one was said to be around 5ft 7in tall and another 5ft 1in.

However, during the Millstrood Road burglary, only two men were present, one of whom had his hood up and was wearing a mask. They left the property empty-handed.

A police spokesperson said they are treating the two incidents as linked and are now asking for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who saw or heard anything that may assist either investigation, including anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, is urged to call the appeal line on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/23147/25 for Millstrood Road and 46/23787/25 for Walmer Road.
