A car fire left smoke billowing across the Thanet Way this morning.

Two fire engines were called to the blaze on the A299 near Whitstable at about 7.30am.

A video taken by passer-by Jordan Collins showed what appeared to be a people carrier well alight, while a firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used a jet of water to extinguish the flames.

The fire caused smoke to billow high into the air, prompting concern from other drivers.

But the fire service has confirmed no casualties were reported.

The blaze was extinguished by 8am. The cause is not yet known.
