St Swithin's Road: Car and money stolen after break-in at house in Whitstable

Burglars have stolen a BMW and cash during a daylight break-in at a home in Whitstable.

The burglary took place in residential St Swithin's Road, between 1.40pm and 4.50pm on Friday.

A quantity of cash and a set of keys for a white BMW M135 were taken, before the car itself was stolen.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Rob Goodban said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help our enquiries to contact us.

"We are also encouraging people to protect themselves against car key burglars by making sure keys, cash and expensive items are not visible from the outside their homes."

Police say people can protect themselves against opportunist thieves with double-locking uPVC doors and windows, using timer switches on lights and radios to make it look as though someone is home, and by keeping garden gates locked and garden boundaries secure.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to phone Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference number 46/6626/18.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555111.

Operation Castle, the force’s annual burglary prevention campaign, was launched at the end of October to raise awareness about home security and encourage the public to take extra measures to protect their property over the winter months.
