The owner of a fish and chip shop required hospital treatment after he was reportedly hit around the head with a bottle of vodka.
Bhupinder Singh was working at popular takeaway Fish Bar on Faversham Road in Seasalter, near Whitstable, when a man appeared at the back door and became aggressive.
Mr Singh said: "The back door was open as it was a hot day and he began swearing at me for no reason.
"I told him to go home but he didn't listen."
The man then reportedly made his way to the front of the shop and smashed all the pickles on the front counter.
As Mr Singh tried to stop the damage he was then allegedly punched and struck in the head with a bottle of vodka.
The 59-year-old then hit him back in defence and courageously chased him out of the shop.
But the incident did not end there as the man is said to have returned a little while later where he then picked up a sign from outside the shop and threw it through the main shop front shattering the glass.
The side and entrance door window were also broken.
