Fire crews fought to extinguish a blaze that broke in a town centre flat.

They were called to the scene in Nelson Road, Whitstable, just after 6.15pm yesterday.

When they arrived, fire fighters reported seeing smoke coming from the property's kitchen.

Crews battled the blaze for more than half an hour, before managing to douse the flames.

A fire service spokesman said: "No casualties were reported and the cause has not yet been confirmed."
