A Kent chippy has been named one of the best in the country.
Ossie’s Fish and Chips in Tankerton, near Whitstable, is the only takeaway in the county to be on the list from BBC Good Foods, of 16 across the UK.
The guide, written by Andy Lynes says the shop, which is a short walk from Tankerton Beach, is a popular restaurant and takeaway which specialises in grilled sea bass from Ramsgate.
“Originally from Istanbul and a family of fishermen, the menu includes traditional cod and chips are well as specialities such as grilled sea bass from Ramsgate Harbour and pan-fried local skate with coriander,” Lynes writes in the guide.
“In good weather, grab a seat in the patio garden or pavement side terrace.”
The site is run by brother and sister team, Ozan and Elvan Bodur.
Miss Bodur says they are over the moon to have made the cut for the BBC list.
“When we found out from the BBC, we were thrilled because there were no other places near us who had been given this award,” she said.
“For a local business like us, this is the highest value you could add to your premises. We have a great team behind us too.
“We are very happy and we have had so many people come in following this report.
“Having been able to offer fresh fish and use local suppliers such as potatoes from Wingham, has helped to add value to our shop too. As a family-oriented business, we are very very happy with the outcome.”
The pair have run the restaurant for 14 years and say they have no relation to Ossie’s Fish Bar on Whitstable High Street.
“It can confuse people as they think we have a shop in Whitstable too but it is not ours,” she added.
