The eye-watering asking price for a one-bedroom property put on the market for £1 million has now been slashed by 35%.
KentOnline readers were shocked when we revealed the seven-figure sum being demanded for the snug detached house right on the beachfront in Whitstable.
The Island Wall home, which is a stone’s throw from the sea and the popular Old Neptune pub, can now be snapped up for £650,000.
According to Zoopla, the price was cut by more than a third earlier this month - but it remains the most expensive one-bed in the county.
Reacting to its original valuation, one reader said: “Some people have got more money than good sense.”
Another commented: “And people wonder why many locals despair. Londoners just push the prices of everything up. Disgusting.”
KentOnline has previously reported how some residents feel “priced out”, following a huge rise in £1 million home sales in the county since the first Covid lockdown.
Properties on the coast are particularly in demand.
The penthouse at the new Shoreline Crescent development on Folkestone beach is currently being marketed for £2.8 million by Mayfair-based estate agents - making it the most expensive two-bed property for sale in the country, outside of London.
Meanwhile, a penthouse apartment in Seabrook, near Hythe, sold for almost £2 million earlier this year.
Location is clearly a key selling point - especially with the Whitstable one-bed, which is being marketed by Miles & Barr.
The property has fantastic views of the coast from the garden and dining room.
It’s also a two-minute walk from the high street with its many shops, bars and restaurants.
Whitstable is also one of Kent’s best-loved commuter towns, giving city workers a taste of the seaside while being less than 90 minutes from London on the train.
