Kent's best-rated restaurant on Tripadvisor Please Sir! to open new venue in Whitstable after Broadstairs branch's success

A burger boss has boasted “one bite is all it will take” for his new restaurant to become a town favourite.

On Thursday, Please Sir! will open its doors in Whitstable, where founder Steve Lawrence believes the fast-food joint will be even more popular than the first location in Broadstairs.

KentOnline previously reported how rave reviews for its rump steak burgers resulted in the Thanet branch becoming the county's number-one-rated restaurant on Tripadvisor.

“People have heard the stories and read the reviews and now they want to try it for themselves,” said Mr Lawrence.

“Broadstairs will always be the foundation but now we’ve grown.

“But the product doesn’t change and people have an expectation now.

“They’ll be coming from all over and one bite is all it will take to change your life.”

Now a similarly sized eatery will welcome guests a bit further along the county's coast in 41 High Street, Whitstable.

Although there is one other burger shop on the strip, Mr Lawrence says it will be no competition.

“There’s no other place around that that I know of that’s going to change people’s lives like we do," he said.

"This isn’t just about flipping burgers, it’s about community and giving back."

In their 'Please Sir Give Some More' campaign last year, the restaurant raised £6,000 for schools and vulnerable families and collected hundreds of donated Christmas presents.

“This time we’re going to do it slightly differently, still working with the school but also joining up with charities that deal with the elderly," Mr Lawrence said.

Save the plumbing and electrics, the ex-Royal Navy man and his staff have done almost all of the renovation work for the new location themselves.

“It actually got to a stage where it was out of my comfort zone and skill-set so I’ve had to call on family and friends, but it’s all been done by us,” said the restaurant boss.

“There’s been some moments when we’ve not been able to see the wood for the trees, but looking at what we’ve done now, it’s got a wow factor as soon as you walk in.

“I cannot wait for it to open and for people to see it for themselves.”

When we tried Please Sir! for ourselves we gave it five stars out of five for its food and price.

The Broadstairs branch remains the highest-rated restaurant on Tripadvisor, with an incredible 443 "excellent" reviews out of 454.
