Two men accused of knifing another man’s face in a pub doorway have blamed each other for the attack - with one labelling the other a “psycho”.

Lewis Jones, 26, hit out at Alfie Scott, 32, telling a court: “You know yourself, look at what he has done, you know he is a psycho.”

But Scott argued it was Jones who slashed Jack Bardrick in front of his girlfriend outside the Duke of Cumberland in Whitstable High Street.

A woman and three men accused of wounding Mr Bardrick with intent are on trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

Shannon Cook and Lewis Jones, both 26, of Brook Road, Swalecliffe near Whitstable, Alfie Scott, of Stodmarsh Road, Fordwich, near Canterbury, and Bradley Jones, 25, of Folkestone Road, Dover, deny the charge.

Their trial last week heard that although nobody saw a weapon, Mr Bardrick suffered “deep, long cuts to his face, neck and ear,” caused by a blade.

Prosecutors argued the violence erupted after Cook and Mr Bardrick’s group, who were unknown to each other, rowed in High Street shortly after midnight on May 14.

Cook phoned then-boyfriend Lewis Jones alleging to have been assaulted when he, Alfie Scott and Bradley Jones swiftly arrived in a Land Rover.

CCTV showed Lewis Jones leaving the Freelander and sprinting towards Mr Bardrick, then repeatedly attempting to rain blows.

He then appeared to knock Mr Bardrick into the pub doorway before Alfie Scott and Bradley Jones arrived and entered the alcove shortly afterwards.

During the attack, Cook is said to have restrained Miss McKinnon by the hair just metres away.

Prosecutor Tim Sleigh-Johnson said either Alfie Scott or Lewis Jones caused the wounds, whereas Shannon Cook commissioned the attack and Bradley Jones drove to the scene and “provided strength in numbers”.

Yesterday, Scott’s barrister Abigail Penny and Lewis Jones traded a rapid exchange during cross-examination.

“You were armed with a knife,” Ms Penny said.

“There was nothing in my hands at all,” Jones replied.

When Ms Penny accused Jones of telling: “lie upon lie upon lie,” he replied: “No, that is your client.”

“It was you who slashed Jack Bardrick,” the barrister continued.

“No it wasn’t me - we all know who did it,” he responded.

“Blood started to come,” Ms Penny went on.

“No, that is a lie,” said Jones.

Ms Penny added: “You were furious weren’t you - you were raging and you were responsible for his injuries.”

Jones replied: “We all know who was responsible for this. (Scott) is a psycho, look at what he has done - you know yourself he is a psycho.”

Jurors were previously shown a selfie-video discovered on Scott’s phone the day after the attack where he stated he wished to bottle someone.

He said he was “raging like I feel sick”, the Stella bottle was “my weapon”, and he planned to smash it against someone’s head and “see how long until the old bill catches up with me”.

"We all know who was responsible for this. (Scott) is a psycho, look at what he has done..."

Ben Irwin, Lewis Jones’ barrister, accused Scott of being “a person who thinks nothing of violence.”

“You were up for attacking a complete stranger,” Mr Irwin said.

“Wrong,” Scott replied.

“This was a chance to really hurt someone wasn’t it,” Mr Irwin said.

“Wrong again,” said Scott.

“Were you slashing at his face?”

“I had nothing in my hand,” Scott said.

Asked on Tuesday who had a weapon, Scott said:“There was [sic] only two of us in the doorway, it must have been Lewis.”

Cook has chosen not to give evidence, while Bradley Jones told jurors he merely drove to the scene, was unaware a knife was used until after and wanted no part in the violence.
