A pavement parking vigilante has taken the law into their own hands.
Handmade red and white stickers with the words Pavements For People were left on two of the six cars that were scratched or keyed in Badlesmere Road, Tankerton.
Police have so far received five reports relating to six vehicles - a VW Tiguan, a VW Scirocco, a VW Passat, a Ford Transit van, a Ford Focus and a Renault Modus - but they fear more vehicles may have been targeted overnight on Saturday.
Baddlesmere Road resident Anne Worton, 45, said: "We’re absolutely livid and it is greatly upsetting.
“My dad is disabled and used to use a mobility scooter. We’re therefore very mindful of the space that needs to be left for the disabled and those pushing prams and are aware of the issues caused by cars blocking the pavements.
“Down our road there is a mutual understanding that cars on the right park on the road and those on the left park on the kerb.
“I feel victimised that I don’t have a big enough property to park my own car on."
PC Colette Todd said: "It appears that someone has taken umbrage to people parking on the pavement.
"While we would always urge people not to park inconsiderately we would also point out that taking the law into your own hands is not acceptable.
"Damaging someone’s car is a criminal offence that potentially carries a prison sentence.
"If people are worried about parking on pavements in their area they should use the proper channels, such as their local authority, to report their concerns."
Anyone who has information about the criminal damage or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in Baddlesmere Road is asked to phone police on 01843 222289 quoting crime number ZY/35215/16.
