A pensioner was struck on the head as a thug attempted to steal his wallet in a shocking daylight robbery.
The victim, a man in his 70s, was walking along Oxford Street near the junction with Cromwell Road, Whitstable, when the incident happened.
The elderly man was hit on the head and the suspect attempted to steal his wallet before leaving the area empty-handed.
The victim contacted a relative who phoned police and officers attended the town centre.
An investigation is now being carried out by the Chief Constable's Crime Squad, who are appealing for witnesses to get in touch following the incident at about 1.20pm on Friday.
The suspect is described as a white man, in his 30s, with ginger hair and a goatee beard.
Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: "Thankfully the victim did not suffer serious injuries, but the incident must have been deeply upsetting for him and his family.
"I am very keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, particularly any members of the public who may have pursued the offender after the attempted robbery."
