A wartime device found on a beach has been detonated.
Police cordoned off a section of the seafront at Tankerton Slopes, near Whitstable, after the discovery was made.
A member of the public found the device on the beach close to Marine Parade.
Officers arrived at the scene at around 1.30pm and cordoned off the Slopes and paths down to the beach.
At least three police cars were seen parked up on the grass.
Royal Navy bomb disposal experts were sent to the scene. They destroyed the device and made the scene safe.
Carl Bradford found the device when using a metal detector.
"I found an unexploded shell while using my metal detector on the beach," he said.
"My daughter and I dug it up before realising what we had found. We stopped two local council workers who also confirmed what we thought it was."
A police spokesman said: "The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended and safely removed the device. The cordon was lifted at about 8.15pm."
