Residents and businesses have been left without a water supply following reports of three burst mains.
Canterbury Road in Whitstable has been flooded this morning – with water seen gushing towards the town centre.
Meanwhile, the town’s high street was also been hit by a burst main this morning.
It comes as emergency gas works take place in the area, which has led to the road being closed today.
And there is also a burst main in Tower Parade.
Andy Beston, South East Water’s regional manager, said: “We’re really sorry to customers in the Whitstable area who currently have low pressure or no water.
“We have received 35 contacts from customers who are affected.
“We were made aware of three burst mains, one of which, in the High Street, has been repaired, and we are in the process of slowly refilling the water main to prevent further bursts.
“The other two repairs in Canterbury Road and Tower Parade are in progress.
“We will have traffic management in place to complete these repairs as quickly and safely as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
It is not yet known how long the repairs will take to complete.
Local author Julie Wassmer says her husband noticed the water pressure was low this morning.
“It is leaking near the Victoria’s Cafe in Canterbury Road,” she said.
“It is rushing down like a river.
“Lots of people don’t have water because it has created such a problem with pressure.
“This has been going on since 4am this morning and there is no one working on it.
“There is a huge amount of water that has been lost.
“It looks like it is coming out of a drain and is quite brown.”
