An 11-year-old rapper from Whitstable has released his first music video.
Street Life, filmed around the town, is Ed Croucher’s latest track. He says it is influenced by hip-hop classics by the likes of NWA, Dr Dre, Nate Dogg and Eminem - and samples the iconic Randy Crawford song.
The Whitstable School pupil - otherwise known as Fidget Rhymes - started rapping in October last year. By Christmas he had made an EP so his grandparents bought him a voucher for the Pulse Music Studios in Herne Bay.
He said: “I wrote it in a morning. It is about the first day of summer. It is about good times with my friends and freedom.”
The video was filmed by Neil Aitchison who has worked with rapper Dizzee Rascal.
Ed says he chose the name Fidget Rhymes because he is “always busy” and “can’t sit still”.
Dad Marc Croucher, 45, said: “When he left primary school, he won an award and they were all shouting ‘Fidget Rhymes, Fidget Rhymes’.
“I think it’s amazing, I wish I could take the credit. I come home from work and he is just in his room writing.
“I was brought up with hip hop and breakdancing - I am reliving my youth. He is educating me now; he knows more than me. He buys vinyls - he spends all of his money on them.”
