With its freshly-painted pink façade, you can’t miss cake maker Victoria Marsh’s new shop.
The Instagram sensation - who has a staggering 23,500 followers - opened the eye-catching store in Whitstable today, fulfilling a long-held ambition, with a queue of customers snaking along the road outside to get in.
Bon Bon Cakes is the culmination of years of work, which started as a hobby and developed into a successful home business, attracting huge interest on social media.
And it’s a far cry from the 31-year-old mum’s previous roles as a 999 call handler and GP receptionist.
“If anything, it’s made me good at handling pressure, which I am sure there will be plenty of,” Victoria said.
But just to add to the mix, she and husband Steve also have a five-month-old baby boy and a three-year-old toddler to look after.
Her new business is in hardware retailer Stocks’ former wood storeroom in Cromwell Road, where husband Steve works.
Victoria is used to the cake shop environment, having previously helped out at her mother-in-law’s What’s Up Cupcake business in Harbour Street, where she honed her baking skills.
She then launched her own kitchen at home, eventually working full-time making cupcakes and brownies and special occasion celebration cakes for family and friends.
Through just word of mouth and social media, she grew the business to the stage where it needed to expand.
“I knew that to do it properly and follow my dream I would need to open my own shop and on-site kitchen,” she explained.
“We’ve done a huge amount of work to fit it out and are now ready for business.”
Bon Bon Cakes offers a wide selection of mouthwatering treats to test the willpower of the most dedicated of calorie counters.
They include cupcakes, brownies, blondies, cookie pie wedges, hybrid cakes and, of course, her magnificent celebration cakes.
And there to help out will be her mum, Bonnie Cox, who Victoria says she could not do without.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Victoria said: “It's going to be very exciting and we hope to see lots of new customers."
