A299 New Thanet Way traffic delays in Whitstable after crash

There are reports of two-mile delays on a major road in Whitstable following a crash involving a car and a lorry.

Traffic is building on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 New Thanet Way due to the crash on the slip road to the seaside town.

It happened between the Chestfield Tunnel and the Clapham Hill junction shortly before 12.30pm today.

Traffic information provider Inrix reports there are long delays - with all traffic being held and motorists queuing for two miles.

Police and paramedics are at the scene of the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Kent Police is currently attending a report of a collision involving a lorry and a car on the London-bound A299 Thanet Way near the slip road leading to Whitstable.

"Officers and other emergency services were called to the scene at about 12.25pm today.

"Officers remain at the scene while recovery work is ongoing."

Kent Highways urged motorists to "approach with caution" following the crash.

"Delays on the London-bound carriageway between Chestfield Tunnel and Clapham Hill junction due to an RTC," it posted.

The ambulance service has been asked for details on injuries sustained in the incident.
