The Thanet Way near Whitstable has reopened, after a crash believed to involve five vehicles caused the major route to close in both directions this morning.

The major road was closed in both directions after the accident happened between Clapham Hill and Millstrood Road at around 9.45am.

Firefighters helped to free a woman who was trapped in a car and she was taken to hospital with suspected head injuries.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

A man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident, and was also taken to hospital.

The road is now fully open.
