The lavish conversion of a former snooker club into luxury seafront flats is now complete.
The Gazette has been given an exclusive look inside the The Savoy apartments, which have already been snapped up by buyers.
Over the past two years, the Beach Walk site which formerly housed The Savoy Snooker & Social Club has been transformed into a high-end residential building – comprising a penthouse, four two-bedroom apartments and a ground floor commercial space.
The first and second floors each feature two luxury two-bedroom flats, ranging from £595,000 to £650,000.
A two-bedroom penthouse apartment (seen in the above video) is spread across the whole top floor and has already been sold for £800,000.
Residents’s vehicles will be stored underground using a cutting-edge car lift system imported from Germany.
Developer George Wilson, of George Wilson Holdings Ltd, says the Savoy development signals a landmark moment for his company.
“We are normally industrial builders,” he said.
“Normally we build huge factories, offices. We have done residential buildings before, but this is the first block of flats.
“It was all about location, location, location.
“We found it was the best location for us to come out of the woodwork and demonstrate that we as a company our capability of doing high-quality residential projects.
“We’re very pleased with what we’ve done.”
On the ground floor of the building is a commercial unit, which was initially expected to house a wine bar that would be open to the public.
But Mr Wilson explained that, following discussions with residents who were concerned about potential noise and cooking smells, it has now been agreed the unit will not be used as an eatery or drinks establishment.
Instead, the premises will be used as an office or retail space, though it is not yet known which business will take over.
