A woman has been taken to hospital with a head injury following a crash that has closed a main road for eight hours.

The incident happened on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way, between the junctions for Herne Bay and Whitstable, at about 2.50am.

Officers shut the route following the crash, which involved a car and a lorry.

The woman has been taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

The Thanet Way has since reopened.
