In-form Whitstable are relishing another road trip as they gear up for their biggest league game of the season so far.

The Oystermen will climb into the Bostik South East play-off places for the first time if they win at VCD Athletic on Saturday.

Only goal-difference separates the Kent rivals at kick-off and Whitstable are chasing a fifth straight away win.

"It's going to be tough there," said manager Scott Porter. "VCD are a good side but so are we.

"We're on a good run at the minute, confidence is high and we're getting people back as well so the squad's looking strong.

"Competition for places is exactly what I want. I want a headache and people know they have to give a good performance to stay in the side.

"We like playing away. We always have done since I've been at Whitstable.

"We get good away support with the Oyster Boys and the boys thrive on playing away."

Whitstable won 4-1 at Bedfont Sports on Saturday to reach the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

They were 4-0 up after 45 minutes and banked £3,000 prize money for the win.

Porter said: "It's important to earn as much money as we can for the club because it benefits everyone and makes life a little bit easier.

"We were out of sight at half-time and managed it in the right way second half.

"They were always going to come at us but the game was dead and buried by half-time.

"It could have been six without reply and it was important, with the wind, we got the goals in front.

"When we go in front we're a hard team to break down and we stayed organised.

"We gave a good account of ourselves and it's pleasing to be in the next round and have three grand in the bank."

Whitstable will travel to Brentwood in the next round on October 27.

Teddy Nelson and Chris Saunders are suspended for the VCD clash although John Walker is ready to resume training.
