Scott Porter has bolstered his Whitstable Town squad with two signings who are “the right fit” for the club.

Midfielder Michael Jenner has signed from Faversham Town while winger Sam Welch has joined from Chatham Town.

Manager Porter said: “I have been looking for someone who it the right fit for my team for a while and Michael Jenner is the right sort of person. I have been after him for a while and it has taken a bit longer than I thought because of the situation at Faversham.

“Sam is a lively right sided player and a few of our players know him. We had a look at him and decided to bring him in to the squad.”

Whitstable are back in action on Saturday following two weeks without a game. They travel to Horsham who are four points above them in sixth.

Porter believes the week off will have helped his players ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

He said: “It should have helped recharge our batteries and everyone should be raring to go.

“It will be a tough place to go Horsham as they have been on a good run. We will go down there with confidence from the Hastings game, even though we didn’t get a result there.

“We will go with a game plan to get something out of the game. They play on a 3G pitch, which is a leveller and we will have to deal with that.

“We have a few players out for Saturday. Steve Smith and James Morrish are suspended, John Walker is injured and Chris Saunders is unavailable.”

Despite not playing on Saturday, they have not lost any ground on the play-off places in the Bostik South East.

Porter added: “The results went our way on Saturday as there were a lot of draws. We want to be near that top six and in touching distance by Christmas. This is a good chance to close that gap.

“There are no excuses now for the lads as we have had two weeks without a game. I’m raring to go and the players should be as well.”
