Danny Ward says there is no reason why Whitstable can’t topple Ryman League Division 1 South title-chasers Faversham in Saturday’s derby game.
The Oystermen head to Salters Lane to face old foes Town who sit joint top after six straight league wins during which they have scored 18 goals and conceded just four.
Town joint-boss Ward saw his side dent third-placed Folkestone’s promotion hopes with a 3-2 win on the road two weeks ago and hopes to mastermind a similar outcome at Faversham.
Ward said: “We won at Folkestone and won convincingly and before that we deserved something at (fourth-placed) Merstham and might well have got it.
“I can’t wait for this one. Faversham are a good side but we are not scared of anyone. If we play to the standard we are capable of, we can beat anyone.”
With co-leaders Burgess Hill having four games in hand on Faversham, the Lilywhites look well placed to finish second and face the team finishing fifth in the promotion play-off semi-final and Ward added: “Hopefully, it’s not the last time we play them this season.
“I saw (Folkestone manager) Neil Cugley say that in seven of the last eight seasons 75 points have been enough for fifth. Well, that’s 10 wins in our last 16 games for us to get to those 75 points.
“We have got a lot to do to get there but there is no reason why we can’t do it.”
Town have signed defender Joe Kane from Lordswood, although he begins a two-match suspension on Saturday.
