After leading Whitstable Town to their highest ever league finish, joint manager Danny Ward is already turning his thoughts to next season – but whether he and brother Jim will still be at The Belmont come August is open to doubt.

Last Saturday’s 2-1 home win over East Grinstead ensured the Oystermen finished eighth in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

And Ward said: “If you had offered us that at the start of the season we would have probably taken it and finishing above Herne Bay has given our fans something to shout about. It’s been a good season.”

But Ward, who revealed last week that four clubs had already asked if he was interested in joining them, replied “don’t know” when asked if he expected to be in charge at Whitstable next season.

He added: “I’ve got some talks (with other clubs) this week and then we’ll go back to the club and see what they’ve got to say.”

Striker Ian Pulman, whose late winner on Saturday took his goal tally for the season to 26, is also likely to be a target during the close season, with Ward adding: “The biggest problem we’ve got is losing players because other clubs know what our budget is and so I’m sure people will come knocking on doors.

“Pulman is bound to be a target and you’ve also got players like Kane Rowland and Tom Loynes, who have done well and the more successful you are, the more people look at you and then offer more money.”
