Whitstable Town manager Scott Porter sees no reason why his side cannot challenge for the Bostik South East play-offs this season.

Whitstable were promoted to the league from the Southern Counties East, Premier Division last season after a hugely successful campaign.

They have got the 2018-19 season off to a great start and are up to eighth and are six games unbeaten.

Their next challenge is against Greenwich Borough who have had a slow start to the season and find themselves near the bottom.

However, they were in the Bostik South play-offs last season and were one of the strongest sides.

Porter said: “If we perform to the levels we can do there’s no reason why we can’t be up there. If we keep everyone fit then we can be there.

“We will keep taking each game as it comes at the moment. Anyone can beat anyone in this and we will not take the game at the weekend lightly.

“We do not know really to expect from them as they have not started well but were in the play-offs last season.”

Whitstable extended their unbeaten run in the Bostik South East to six matches following their 2-1 win at local rivals Faversham Town.

Porter’s side had drawn three matches back-to-back before that game.

He said: “It is six games unbeaten now in the league, which is pretty decent at this stage of the season.

“It was so important to get that result. We carried it out professionally. Getting those three points gave us a lot of confidence.”

Whitstable also progressed to the second round of the Kent Senior Cup after a 5-4 win on penalties.

Kyran Connolly scored for Whitstable as the match ended 1-1.

They were also able to welcome back Harry Brown to the side after more than a year out through injury.

Porter added: “We changed a lot of players on Tuesday night. Players who had not played much were able to get some minutes and it was pleasing we were able to get the win and keep the run going.

“Harry is a lovely lad and he’s had a tough year since the injury. We were delighted for him and the football club to see him back on the pitch.”
