FA Vase-winning manager Tommy Sampson has offered his message of support to Whitstable ahead of their semi-final tie.
The red-hot Southern Counties East League Premier Division side are closing in on a Wembley final as they host Hellenic League Premier Division champions-elect Hartpury University in front of a sell-out Belmont crowd this weekend.
Eight days later, the fixture will be settled during the second leg in Gloucestershire.
Sampson, who led Deal to FA Vase glory in 2000, has arranged a reunion to mark the 25th anniversary.
He has recalled that memorable day, beating Chippenham 1-0 through a late goal by Roly Graham, and has spoken of his friendship with player-manager Jamie Coyle, who has led the Oystermen on a 16-game unbeaten run.
“I have - for many years now - felt blessed that, in the year 2000, I led my Deal Town team to victory over Wessex League’s Chippenham Town,” said Sampson.
“I know from experience that there will be no end of drama over the two legs. I have spoken to Jamie regularly during his team's run. I have offered him my advice.
“He has my very best wishes. We have been friends for many years now.
“As for the club's supporters, Jamie has given them the chance to break free from the footballing wilderness.
“With more than 2,000 tickets sold in advance, it’s going to be Kent football's unmissable destination this weekend - if you've got a ticket that is!
“The formula to being successful over two legs is, don’t give yourself too much to do in the second leg. I know that sounds simple.
“I will say to you, the Whitstable faithful, you can't win the semi-final this weekend - but you sure can lose it!
“For me being able to lead my players out of the tunnel at the original Wembley Stadium in front of 22,000, that was a gift from the Almighty.
“On the anniversary of Wembley, May 6, 2000, that Wembley team will reunite for the first time in 25 years.
“I can only tell you that there will be much laughter, reminiscing, tears and a few lies told.
“The bond between those players is still so solid.
“Whitstable at Wembley? Who knows?
“Whitstable winning at Wembley? Let's all hope.”
Sampson and wife Sandie moved away from Kent and relocated to Nottinghamshire last year.
