Simon Halsey hailed the coming week as the biggest of Whitstable’s season and his time as the club’s manager.
Town have slumped into the bottom two in Ryman League Division 1 South after five straight losses and Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Walton & Hersham was their 16th in 19 games this term.
Town visit mid-table Carshalton on Saturday (3pm) before a trip to Chipstead – the only side below them, with one win in 17 – on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Halsey has grouped the two games with the visit of Three Bridges to the Belmont on Saturday week as vital to his and the club’s future.
He said: “Without a doubt it’s the biggest week of the season. It’s massive. There are nine points to play for and, unless we deliver most probably five or six of them, things won’t be looking too good for myself.
“I haven’t had any ultimatums from the chairman or anything like that, but I’m an elder statesman, I have been in the game a long time.
“I took over and we didn’t have a point and we’ve managed to put seven on the board, but that is not enough.
“We have had plenty of chances to win more games and put more points on the board but we have just not been able to do that. At the end of the day that falls on me. I know it, the players know it, everyone knows it – this is a big week for me as manager of Whitstable Town.
“At the moment we are not putting points on the board but six points from these next three games would be a good return and would be a good start in turning things around – which we have got to do sooner rather than later.”
