Scott Porter claims his organisation and commitment are what attracts players to sign for him, despite Whitstable’s predicament at the foot of Ryman League Division 1 South.

After being appointed last week, the former Hythe boss wasted no time in signing some trusted players from his Reachfields days who made an immediate impact at the Belmont.

Porter tempted Craig Thompson back from Ramsgate, Michael Yianni from Deal and Jamie Collado from Hythe, while defender Jack Healey followed from Ashford and Callum Wraight from Folkestone this week.

Porter said: “I do things properly. If something’s worth doing I’ll give it everything, I pour my heart and soul into everything and always give 100%.

“The club was a bit Mickey Mouse before I was here but that’s in the past. People see the club are more organised and that helps with getting people to come and play. I’ve got a job to do and I’m going to do it my way. I think people like that.”

He added: “I wanted to get people in who know what I’m about, players I can trust and who will rub off on the others.

“In Jack and Callum we have an extra bit of quality and I’m still trying for another striker too.Getting five players here in a week, in our position, shows we’re doing something right.”

The Oystermen suffered an eighth-straight defeat, losing 1-0 at home to promotion-chasing Worthing on Saturday, but Porter was encouraged.

He said: “I looked at what I got from the boys on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised, they put a proper shift in.

“It was disappointing not to get anything, everyone was so disappointed but the focus and effort was there.

“I got the response I was looking for and hope we can carry that into the upcoming games because we will pick up results.

“We have losing momentum. We have lost so many games that we are used to losing and need to change that as quickly as possible.”
