Scott Porter hopes to remain at Whitstable and guide them back to the Ryman League – so long as the club’s off-field situation is resolved to his satisfaction.
The Town boss plans talks with president and former chairman Joe Brownett about the direction in which the club are going in the wake of the departure of chairman Adam Lightowler last week, just two months after he replaced Gary Johnson in the role.
Porter said: “I want to know where we are, I can’t plan anything at the moment.
“Hopefully, I will be talking to Joe and will be looking to talk about the direction the club are going.
“I want to be there next season, even if we do go down but things have got to be right.”
On the field, Porter’s men finished on a high, registering a second straight win, coming from behind to beat Guernsey 3-1 at the Belmont on Saturday.
It was a fourth win in nine games under their fourth manager of the season to steer the side off the bottom of Ryman League, Division 1 South on the final day.
The wooden spoon went instead to Peacehaven, although the Oystermen’s hopes of a reprieve from relegation to Southern Counties East League look slim as seven teams at the same level have better points-per-game ratios than Town.
Porter said: “We had goals when we came in, nobody gave us a hope in hell of getting off the bottom but we have given ourselves an opportunity (of a reprieve if there is one) and finished on a high."
