Faversham manager Ray Turner hopes his Town squad will accept the challenge laid down by rivals Folkestone in the race for Ryman League, Division 1 South promotion.

On Tuesday night, Town fell out of the top-two for the first time since December, with Invicta making it nine points in five days to leapfrog them by a point, although they have played a game more.

The destiny of second-spot – and home advantage in the play-offs – remains in Town’s hands as they travel to Walton & Hersham on Saturday before playing their game in hand at home against Carshalton Athletic on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Turner added: “We are looking for a minimum four points from these two games.
“We have our work cut-out with Folkestone at the moment – they have had a good week and turned an eight-point deficit into a one-point advantage.

“It’s good in a way – we can use it as another challenge as we are 99.8% confirmed in the play-offs already.

“In the play-offs, the team finishing fifth will be something like 20 points behind the team in second, so logic suggests it would be an easier game and there is the advantage of playing at home.”

Striker Stuart King could start for Town with Dean Grant serving the first of two games suspended.

Meanwhile, Matt Bourne has two of his three-game ban to go following his
red-card in the initial game against Carshalton, which was abandoned on February 28 after a nasty injury to an Athletic player.
