Arrest after hit-and-run on A28 in Sturry near Canterbury

A 19-year-old has been arrested after a suspected hit-and-run during a police chase left a moped rider in hospital.

It happened at about 12.40pm on Monday, when the driver of a blue BMW allegedly failed to stop for police when requested to do so in Broad Oak Road, Canterbury.

The same car then reportedly collided with a moped on the A28 Mill Road near Sturry High Street before the driver fled.

The moped rider sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

A man from Canterbury was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision.

He remains in custody while inquiries continue.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone who might have dashcam, doorbell or private CCTV footage that could assist inquiries to come forward.

Police are also keen to receive any footage that may have been taken in the moments leading up to the collision, between Broad Oak Road and Mill Road.
