A city council is set to close floodgates after a weather alert was issued for parts of Kent.
Canterbury City council (CCC) is shutting the gates as tides will be higher than usual in the district.
The 3am and 3pm tides tomorrow (Monday, January 15) are expected to be particularly high.
And The Environment Agency has warned residents of the Isle of Sheppey and along the north Kent coast to brace themselves this afternoon, with a flood warning in place.
People between Kemsley and Seasalter could be affected, which includes Sheerness, Sittingbourne and Faversham areas.
A CCC spokesman says: “The forecast will be monitored very closely over the next few days and, if necessary, we will close further floodgates along our seafront.
Our staff will be out monitoring these high tides and operating the sluice gates on the coastal brooks to stop the sea flooding inland.”
The Environment agency warned flooding could be possible in the above named areas between 12.45pm and 4.45pm today.
Higher than normal tides are expected to last for the next few days, and people are asked to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
