The route, which has seen multiple closures over the years, is a bypass for Sturry, with Herne Bay and Thanet drivers often using it to cut journey times.

The main road has faced repeated last-minute closures in recent years, which often have a knock-on effect elsewhere in the district.

In March, South East Water repairs closed the road again, leading to chaos on the morning commute.

There have been at least four burst wavter mains on the road since the start of 2019.

Canterbury City Council is due to meet next week to discuss the rising number of route closures in the district.

South East Water has been contacted for comment.
