Person dies after being hit by train at Wye railway station

A person has died after being hit by a train this morning.

The incident happened at Wye station at 8.34am, with Southeastern reporting delays 18 minutes later.

Emergency services spent an hour at the scene and electricity to the rail was switched off.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told KentOnline: "Officers were called to Wye railway station at 8.34am on January 2 to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

The incident has since cleared and services have commenced between Canterbury West and Ashford International.
