A suspected oil spill in a river is causing a city to “stink of diesel”.
The “slick” was spotted in the River Stour in Canterbury city centre this morning.
Kayleigh Gogerly took a video showing a rainbow sheen on the water outside the Marlowe Theatre at around 9.20am.
She has reported it to the Environment Agency (EA).
The 38-year-old, who works as a caretaker in the Marlowe, says she is worried that wildlife in the area could be affected.
“I haven’t got a clue how it is been caused but it’s not good for the wildlife,” The Faversham resident said.
“It’s also not a good advert for the city as it stinks of diesel.”
To report an oil spill you can call the EA’s 24/7 incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.
The EA has been approached for comment.
