Teenager 'threatens staff with hammer' at Sainsbury's at St Lawrence's Ground, Old Dover Road, Canterbury

A teenager has been arrested after supermarket staff were allegedly threatened with a hammer during a robbery.

The 16-year-old is said to have stolen bottles of detergent in the raid at the Sainsbury's Local at St Lawrence's Ground in Old Dover Road, Canterbury.

Officers were called to the scene at about 2.20pm on Sunday, and the unarmed teenager was arrested.

Police dog Britt, a German shepherd, was enlisted to help retrieve the tool, and managed to sniff it out in a bush while scouring the area.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Kent Police was called at 2.20pm on Sunday following a report that a teenage boy had threatened staff at a supermarket in Old Dover Road, Canterbury before stealing bottles of detergent.

"Officers attended and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

"He has since been bailed pending further enquiries."
