A police chase after a suspected burglary attempt ended with a car crashing into a tree.

One suspect was arrested while another managed to flee after officers were called to a house in Swanscombe.

Police were called to the scene at 4.20am where they saw the car crash and two exit the vehicle.

The initial report at 4.20am on Friday was of a disturbance at a property in the Milton Road area of the town.

When police arrived they were informed of an attempted burglary at the home.

A spokesman said: “A car that was seen to leave the area was pursued and two men exited the vehicle after it came to a halt in Milton Street.”

It is unclear at what point the car – believed to be a silver Vauxhall Astra – crashed.

A 20-year-old man from London was arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody. He has since been bailed until November while inquiries continue.

The area was searched but the second person was not found and police are now appealing for people’s help.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call the appeal line on 01474 366375, quoting reference 04-0152.

Residents with private CCTV and drivers with dashcam footage who may have been in the area at the time are asked to check for relevant footage.
