Residents have joked that they would need to set up a GoFundMe page to afford a £25 all-you-can-eat breakfast being offered in Kent.
The Cow Shed - based in Birchington and at The Ship Inn in Ospringe, near Faversham - says the meal promises “unlimited deliciousness”.
But people have been left stunned after seeing the hefty pricetag advertised on the business’s social media posts.
Damien Hoad said: “No breakfast is worth £25 even if it is unlimited. This is Faversham, not Mayfair.”
Others pointed out that the Premier Inn in Faversham offers the same deal for less than half the price, while the all-you-can-eat feast at Canterbury’s Tea Cafe is just £8.99.
The Cow Shed’s breakfast offer is available from 9am to 11am on Saturdays and Sundays and includes drinks. Children under 12 get the meal for half price and those under five eat for free.
But writing on social media, Glen Cole quipped: “Considering setting up a GoFundMe page in order that I can go try this lavish breakfast at some point!”
Matt Balans joked: “Happy to swap the black pudding for a two-bedroom with parking space, two min walk from the train station.”
Meanwhile Alice Green queried whether people could pay in instalments, asking: “Do you accept Klarna or Clearpay?”
Not everyone found the situation funny though, with the cost-of-living crisis continuing to impact families.
Lisa Randall said: “This has actually put me off going for a meal there if this is a reflection of the prices.”
Despite the breakfast backlash, one member of staff defended the cost of the meal.
They wrote: “Our standard breakfast normally costs £13.50, add your black pudding for £1 then your hot drinks & juices, now make it unlimited and add cereal & fresh pastries.
“We use our own recipe sausages and unfortunately aren’t able to offset some of the breakfast costs against the room prices like some other establishments.”
It is not the first time eyebrows have been raised over prices at the restaurant.
When KentOnline visited the Birchington branch in February, our reviewer felt £8.50 for a large bottle of Birra Moretti was a bit steep for something which is £6 cheaper in the shops.
Aside from the furore over the fry-up, The Cow Shed is highly rated on Tripadvisor.
Both locations boast a four-and-a-half star rating, with hundreds of reviews raving about the food.
KentOnline has asked bosses at The Cow Shed for comment.
