Traffic is clearing on two major routes following accidents this morning, one of which left a vehicle in a ditch with the driver requiring treatment.

The M2 coastbound between Sittingbourne and Faversham and the A2 London Road between the two towns had been affected by crashes.

One of two lanes was closed on the motorway, with queues building after junction 5 (Sittingbourne/Stockbury Roundabout) though these have since cleared.

Elsewhere, both lanes of the A2 had been partially blocked after a vehicle crashed into a ditch near the Faversham Road junction, which leads traffic to Doddington and Lenham.

It is understood their injuries are not life-threatening, although paramedics were on scene while efforts to retrieve the vehicle are ongoing.

Traffic monitoring expert Inrix reported at the time: “A2 London Road in both directions partially blocked, heavy traffic due to an accident at Faversham Road.

“Queueing traffic and one lane closed due to accident on M2 coastbound from J5 A249 (Sittingbourne / Stockbury Roundabout) to J6 A251 Ashford Road (Faversham).”

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 9.07am on Tuesday, October 15 to a report that a car had left the carriageway into a ditch on the A2 London Road, Near Faversham.

“Officers and paramedics are currently at the scene where the driver has reported injuries. Arrangements are underway to recover the vehicle.”
