A flood warning has been issued across a stretch of the county’s coastline tonight.

People are being alerted by the Environment Agency (EA) about the risks of flooding caused by high tides.

Areas along the north Kent coast from Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, to Seasalter near Whitstable could be affected.

Areas on Sheppey including Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough and Leysdown, are also deemed to be at risk, according to weather forecasters.

People in Sittingbourne and Faversham are also being told to be prepared for potential breaches by the sea and tidal waterways.

The highest tide level is expected at 3.30am tomorrow with flooding possible from 1.30am until 5.30am, the agency warned.

The EA says people should be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

An update from the authority is expected at 8am or if the situation changes through the night.
