A town’s first Greggs has officially opened – with free jam doughnuts for the first 100 through the door.
The popular bakery welcomed the first customers through the doors of its newest branch, within The Shell garage in Cheriton Road, Folkestone, this morning.
Lovers of the chain would previously have had to travel to Dover or Ashford to grab one of the company’s famous sausage rolls or steak bakes.
To help celebrate the occasion, bosses at the bakery have been giving away free treats to the first punters through the door, as many flock to try some of the goods on offer.
A Greggs spokesperson told KentOnline last month: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Folkestone in the next few weeks operated by our franchise partner, MFG.
“We look forward to welcoming Greggs fans and new customers to come try our range of tasty bakes, hot drinks and sweet treats”.
It is the latest branch to open in the county.
Another outlet launched in March in New Romney, while Kent’s first drive-thru Greggs opened for business in Sittingbourne in February.
In April, Greggs revealed big expansion plans after reporting record high sales, as consumers flocked to the bakery chain for low-cost meals amid the cost-of-living squeeze.
The bakery chain reported total sales of £1.5 billion over 2022, a 23% surge on the £1.2 billion reported the previous year.
