CCTV shows biker trying wheelie in Tontine Street, Folkestone, and crashing

CCTV footage captures the embarrassing moment a biker loses control and crashes while trying to perform a wheelie along a busy town centre road.

The red-faced rider lands on all fours after falling off the back of the vehicle as the stunt goes horribly wrong in Tontine Street, Folkestone.

A concerned district councillor has condemned the “irresponsible” actions of the biker.

The clip shows the rider dusting themselves off after the crash, before lifting the visor on their helmet and pointing to the road.

As well the bike scraping across the tarmac, a chunk of its bodywork flies off. Panels for the ignition and an L-plate were left behind in the street.

Cllr Nicola Keen, who represents the Folkestone Harbour ward for Labour, told KentOnline: “As a responsible member of the public and a councillor, it does concern me that people think that's appropriate to do that.

“With the amount of traffic and heavy goods vehicles that use Tontine Street, I think that's quite irresponsible of that young person or adult to do.”

The crash occurred on the road which leads to Folkestone harbour earlier this month.

While wheelies are not specifically banned by law, performing them could fall into dangerous driving territory as the rider is not in full control of the bike.

Motorbike newspaper MCN says: “A wheelie can be prima facie evidence of a lack of due care for the rider’s own safety and that of other road users.”
