An actor best known for his role in Only Fools and Horses has told of his five-year battle with McDonald’s – leading to a parking fine of almost £3,000.

Patrick Murray, who found fame as Mickey Pearce on the hit BBC show, claims a £100 fine given to him years ago has since spiralled – and would set the cancer-ridden star back £2,800.

The Higham resident told his Twitter/X followers he was also facing threats of having his personal belongings removed despite no court order being in place.

The 66-year-old said: “Five years ago I received a private parking ticket for parking on a disabled spot at McDonald's.

“I went back and saw the manager complaining that I was asked by the server to park up there to await my food.

“The initial ticket was less than £100. Now I am getting countless letters from a company demanding I pay £2,800 in or face having my personal goods removed.

“There was no court order to say I owed this debt.

“Suddenly getting a demand for £3,000 could be devastating for many people. Who knows some may have been driven to suicide with worry.”

The situation comes at an already tough time for the actor, who announced in April last year his cancer had returned.

The actor first announced his diagnosis in January 2022 and after a treatment of chemotherapy, it seemed to be successful.

Murray has also previously thanked NHS staff and praised his surgeon at the start of 2023 after a life-saving tumour-removal operation.

Murray is best known for playing Mickey Pearce in the comical BBC sitcom, but also had roles in Scum, Curse of the Pink Panther and The Firm.

He also helped reopen the popular pub in Higham, called The Gardeners Arms, back in 2017.

It is not clear which branch this took place at and KentOnline has contacted McDonald’s for comment.
