Storm Isha is set to batter the Kent coast – with the Met Office issuing an amber warning for wind.

The alert is in place Monday between midnight and 9am – though this could be extended.

Gusts could reach speeds of 60mph and forecasters have warned of potential travel disruption, damage to buildings and a danger to life from large waves.

The area affected stretches across the south of the county from Margate to Lydd and could affect residents as high up as Faversham.

With the spell of very strong winds, disruption to travel is likely – road, rail and ferry services all included – and the Met Office warns there could be damage to buildings such as tiles being blown from roofs.

There is also a good chance power cuts may occur which could see services such as mobile phone coverage impacted.

For those on the coast, injuries and danger to life could be likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties​​​​​​.

Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning for wind is in place for the rest of the county – and indeed the entire country – from 12pm on Sunday to 12pm on Monday.
