Fresh images reveal how multi-million-pound ‘health campus’ near Westwood Cross could look

Work on a ‘health campus’ and retirement village could start this year after fresh CGI designs surfaced showing how the finished project could look.

A GP practice, care home, assisted living building and nursery are set to be built at Westwood, near Ramsgate, under the banner of Westwood Health Campus.

It will create 150 spaces across the care and assisted living facilities and offer The Grange Surgery the chance to more than double its floor space by moving out of the Montefiore Medical Centre in Dumpton Park Drive.

Given approval by Thanet District Council in June last year, Quinn Estates will deliver the project – hoping to complete it within five years.

In a reserved matters application, the developer has produced fresh CGIs of the GP centre as it looks to open the facility by the end of 2026.

“The development represents a vital opportunity to address the pressing medical needs of both existing residents and those in the new residential areas emerging nearby,” said Quinn bosses.

“By aligning the services offered with the growing demand in the region, the medical centre will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall health and well-being of the community.”

Julie Hill, practice manager at The Grange, added: “A larger surgery will allow us to expand our patient list over the coming years and also to expand our ultrasound service which is offered to the whole of east Kent, reducing waiting times.”

A total of 12 consultation rooms will be available in the L-shaped building, along with dedicated spaces for phlebotomy, treatment and training.

There will also be 110 parking spaces available, including electric vehicle charging spaces, and an ambulance bay.

Split into two phases, the first phase will see the delivery of the GP centre, the spine road linking the estate to New Haine Road, commercial spaces and the 80-bed nursing home.

The 70-strong assisted living facility and children’s nursery will be delivered as part of the second phase of the project.

East Cliff Practice, also in Ramsgate, remains in negotiations with The Grange to move into its current building when vacated.

Cllr Marc Rattigan (Con) previously praised the plans, saying: “I think it’s a brilliant scheme.

“The biggest bug bear of people with development across Thanet is the lack of doctors and this is providing quite a big solution for that.”
