A wildlife rescue centre has praised veterinary staff for saving a “horrendously injured” fox cub.
The badly hurt animal, named Ismelia, was rescued by Medivet Vets in Bearsted and Kent Wildlife Rescue Service in Sheerness.
The cub suffered an injured leg which is thought to have come from a dog bite.
She was first seen on Thursday, August 17, by a resident in Spot Lane, Maidstone, who alerted the animal charity but was unable to help the fox as it run away through a gap in a fence.
Five days later on August 21 Medivet staff called Tracey Bosman, one of the volunteers at the rescue service, about the five-month-old fox and after two hours of trying to catch her they managed to guide her into a cage.
Mrs Bosman believes the wounds weren’t consistent with a road traffic accident and looked more like a dog bite.
She said: “She had suffered a horrendous injury to the inside of her back leg and a puncture wound to her hind.
“We’re often asked how could this happen, usually RTA but on this occasion, it appears could be a dog-related attack.
“Usually road traffic accident injuries see the animal have injuries on their feet and nails.”
It’s thought the cost of treatment will be around £2000.
The centre is rasing money for both Ismelia and for the centre itself via thier website which can be viewed by clicking here.
Mrs Bosman added: “She is now in a comfortable state and presently at the vet for skin grafting on the damaged leg.
“We can’t thank the girls at the vets, Izzy, Amelia and Rachel, enough. Without them, this fox would still be out there in horrendous pain.”
