A man has died following an incident which saw a large emergency services response near a town centre car park.
Police cordoned off part of The Brook, in Chatham, next to the Pentagon Shopping Centre last night (November 13).
Officers were called to the busy main road at 7.20pm following concerns for the welfare of a person.
They closed the street to traffic on arrival where they were assisted by paramedics who confirmed the death of a man in his 30s at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed.
An air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene and is understood to have landed nearby at the Great Lines Heritage Park. Fire crews also attended.
Kelly Longman, who lives nearby, said she first knew something had happened when she heard “the sirens”.
She added: “My next-door neighbour came around to tell me the emergency services were there and they had shut part of the road.
“There are police, ambulances and there was a fire truck. A helicopter was also flying around very low.
“I do not know what happened but I did hear a noise coming from the area.”
Police say a report is being compiled for the coroner.
Medway Council confirmed the car park is open today (November 14).
