A man has been arrested at a Remembrance Sunday parade following an assault on a security guard and the use of racist language.
Police say a man was held by officers after he had tried to enter the Royal British Legion parade in Rochester.
The police posted on social media to say that the man had “tainted” the day.
They added that the man was arrested in connection with “a number of offences” but have not released further details.
The parade followed a Remembrance Sunday service at Rochester Cathedral.
Deputy leader of Medway Council, Teresa Murray, who was attending the event, said the “shocking” incident was “out of step” with the occasion.
She said: “Today’s parade was a very peaceful event with people I saw taking the opportunity to observe Remembrance Day. There were lots of people in Rochester High Street, more than there have been in recent years.
“Although I did not see his actions first hand, they were out of step with the rest of the parade.”

Police confirmed they were called following reports a man had assaulted two security guards.
A spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene where a local man was arrested on suspicion of an assault and a racially aggravated assault, before being taken into custody.”
The 36-year-old was later bailed to return to the police station on February 8, 2024.
