The force was investigating the alleged aggravated burglary which was reported to have happened between 5.30pm and 5.45pm that evening.

During the incident, the offender was said to have used the weapon to assault the victim inside the property before he fled the scene.

The victim was later taken to the hospital to be treated for head injuries and has since been discharged.

British Transport Police (BTP) and Network Rail workers assisted in the efforts to locate the weapon, which was found in shrubbery near Canal Road, Strood.

BTP posted pictures of the search on X this morning (July 14) and wrote: “Last night our officers were called to Strood to assist Kent Police with recovery of a weapon used in a serious assault.

“The weapon was thrown trackside and a search team from Kent Police found the item in thick undergrowth.”

As part of the investigation, police officers arrested a man at around 6.20pm in connection with the incident, however, he has since been released without charge.

The investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible.
